La sagra che aspettavamo! Kwakoe Amsterdam
OK, there’s football, music and beauty pagents, but the Kwakoe festival in Zuidoost is really about the ribs—or any other barb-b-qued Surinamese snack. Mmm.
Yes. Food. It’s all about the food. There was some confusion earlier this year whether Kwakoe could continue under its original name when the city gave the licensing to a new group to organise the festival. But happily last weekend this family-oriented festival, that’s been running since 1975, opened and it was obviously ‘business as usual’. If it’s a sunny weekend and if you squint a bit, it truly feels like a tropical vacation. But then with ribs.
